About Us

The North West Ambulance Service CardiacSmart Team is trying to strengthen the Chain of Survival in your area. By teaching people basic life skills such as assessing a patient to see if they are in cardiac arrest, teaching CPR skills and familiarising you with an automated external defibrillator (AED), we hope we can increase the survival rate when someone has an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

Our vision statement is:

Reduce the mortality and morbidity associated with out of hospital cardiac arrest by improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities in the North West of England by establishing partnerships within communities

The Chain of Survival objectives are:

  • Improve public awareness of how and when to access emergency care
  • Increase the number of people in the North West able to provide basic emergency life support, including the use of an automated external defibrillator
  • Increase the availability of emergency medical equipment, and in particular automated external defibrillators, for use in emergency situations by responders and members of the public
  • Engage with local communities to ensure partnership working and sustainability
